The 1st Squad is a march slot for sending heroes and units onto the world map. You use it to gather resources, attack enemies and take part in alliance operations. While it is deployed, that slot is occupied until the squad returns.
How squads work
- A squad combines your chosen heroes with units. The Barracks trains those units; the Drill Grounds holds your army's unit capacity.
- Gathering sends a squad to a resource tile. The march remains busy during the assignment.
- A deployed squad cannot be edited or sent on another assignment. Recall it before sending it elsewhere.
- Opening another Squad gives you another march to use at the same time. Upgrading an existing Squad does not open another slot.
March slots, unit capacity and speed
These are different limits. March slots determine how many squads you can have out. Hero Squad Size affects unit capacity within a formation. Load Capacity affects the resources a squad can carry, while march speed affects travel.
The Squad building's upgrades add power and a march-speed bonus. The research trees also have separate Squad 1–4 branches with gathering, load and combat improvements. The 2nd Squad is the next separate march slot to work toward.
